Mr. Izak Smit

Co-Founder

Izak Smit is the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Professional Provident Society (PPS), the financial services firm that serves graduate professionals, since 2016. His career of more than 30 years in financial services includes roles at Sanlam, Citadel and Absa. At Absa he was amongst other jobs the managing executive of Absa Life (2008 to 2011). He is a qualified actuary and holds honours degrees from the universities of Stellenbosch and Pretoria, and a Post Graduate Diploma from Oxford. He is a self-confessed lifelong student of many subjects, including mathematics. He loves teaching and is passionate about helping young people to aspire, prepare and be accepted to professional study courses and ultimately professional careers. With colleagues at PPS the vision is to help every youngster who has the appetite to achieve success in their mathematics studies, through a personal tutor in their pockets. He is married to Liezel, and their two sons ensure that their dad participates with them in various outdoor hobbies.

Dr. Ricardo Virgill Smart

Co-Founder

Dr. Ricardo Virgill Smart is a dynamic and compassionate community leader with a deep-rooted passion for service. With a strong belief that "education is the key to innovation," he has built a robust academic foundation, culminating in a PhD in Wine Biotechnology from Stellenbosch University. This diverse educational background, spanning molecular biology, microbiology, and biotechnology, underpins his exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills. A natural mentor and advocate, Dr. Smart's influence extends far beyond academia. He has been recognized as one of "Africa’s Top 100 Brightest Young Minds" and received the International Leadership Council Award for Community Leadership. His work has been featured on national television, highlighting his dedication to education. Dr. Smart's professional journey reflects a unique blend of scientific rigor, leadership acumen, and a profound desire to drive positive change. His efforts are a testament to his motto, serving as a beacon of hope and an ambassador for his community and country.
